Captain’s Blog: Letter from the Editor

Lavendate: 2025 - 04 - 21

Hello All!

Thanks for clicking on my little blog post. This is my first one so it may not be super interesting, but I’m sure I’ll get more unhinged the more I write here.

For my first entry, I’d like to talk about why I started Lavendwriter.

Once upon a time, I was an undergrad with undiagnosed ADHD. My major was creative writing and it was the best time of my life - genuinely. I was writing everyday, getting amazing grades, and talking with other writers all the time. But once I only had credits to fill that weren’t writing related and COVID made all my schooling online, my mental health dropped so low that I dropped out with just my senior year left to go.

After years of working shitty, minimum wage jobs and trying to get my education and career back on track, I decided to create a literary magazine that allowed me all the freedom that the rest of my life did not. I wanted to give that to other people too.

That’s why Lavendwriter is all about self-expression, free speech, and empowering oneself through art and writing. That’s why submissions will ALWAYS be free of charge and I am working on a way to pay the writers who get published here. That’s why I have the Young Writers Series: so young people with less experience can get started on their writing journey early.

Lavendwriter is always about remembering the past and creating ways to better the future.

So, I thank you all for reading and I hope you will or have already looked at the fiction and poetry I’ve published from people of all walks of life.

Sincerely,

Lowen
